voice;

Pity it's come to this foolishness. [ Loki utters with a little irritated twist to his words. ] A dead world filled with lies is hardly enough to keep me from my cause. [ There's a thoughtful pause, as if considering what should be said before he continues, his voice slipping back into that perfected silky tone he's known for. ] What to do if you're not real; I do hope none expect me to swallow such swill.

[ His existence false? Never. ] The pictures may have been convincing, but nothing that cannot be conjured. [ Perhaps not word for word... He bites down on those thoughts. One never knew where the information came from, perhaps another that saw as Heimdall did. He digresses, ]

I know not how you drew me from the pull of the tesseract, nor how such an elaborate ruse was created to plant me as such on this barren planet but I find no amusement in it. Nor the weapon you have bestowed upon me. [ A War Hammer? That's a pretty big personal 'screw you' to Loki. ]

To those who claim-- [ As he does not trust easily enough to believe that the truth is what they will speak; but he is curious as to their answers regardless. ]-- capture I inquire upon your own circumstances prior to your arrival here.

[Robin still isn't too fond of these devices. He can't stop thinking about how much gold such things must've cost to make, and how that same gold could've helped his people.]

[But even he can't help his people right now. He can, however, offer it to the people here.]

There is still very little that I'm sure of right now. But I've already seen enough with my own eyes to know that there could be injured people out there. I, for one, plan on helping them, and it's up to anyone who can hear my voice whether or not they want to join me.

If you're hurt, speak up. If you're hungry, do the same. I swear I won't leave the good people defenseless. And anyone who isn't afraid of a little danger is welcome to join me. I cannot do it alone and I doubt any of us could.

So is anyone with me?

Zombies.

[ the voice on the other end of the line sounds utterly exhausted. there's a click that can only be the saftey on a gun, then the sound of a zipper. ]

And I can't even say that's the strangest thing that's happened to me this week.

[ and if his tone is bitter, he isn't acknowledging it. ]

I'd come up with some inspirational speech about banding together, but that's not my area of expertise. So, who here isn't totally useless when it comes to weaponry? Show of hands?

Hello. Not sure if this is working right...

[He knits his brow as he examines his phone.]

Anyway, my name is John Watson. I don't know exactly what's going on here, but if this place is as dangerous as we're led to believe, I wanted people to know that I'm a doctor. An army doctor, but a doctor all the same.

Please call on me if you need to.

[ Arthur Pendragon is not from a world where long-distance communication is instantaneous. He is more used to the length of time a message takes — whether it’s sending a servant running three floors in order to tell the Court Physician that actually, his shoulder was starting to give him a bit of trouble, if he could make up some salve? Or all the way down to the lower town, to tell the blacksmith to get started on twenty new dragon-crested shields for the knights errant that had sworn to the service of Camelot after the latest tourney. Or a rider across the kingdom, out to the lords and their holdings, perhaps even over the border to treat with another kingdom all together. He had even once sent a message to the Roman Empire, mustering across the ocean, though the seasons turned three times before he received a response to his query. ]

[ So it is with some bemusement that he watches the small device go through its tutorial once more, trying to grasp just how effective the ability to “record” and “transmit” his voice would be when it came to combat strategy. Scouts could film an enemy encampment rather than risk the long trek back! Messages could be passed between leaders on the field and off as developments shifted the course of the battles. Treaties could be negotiated from separate locations, without the risk of ambush or treachery. ]

Er, is this — working?

[ Amateur film-making is always a little awkward to look at. Arthur is a blur of blond hair and armour in the feed, as he tries to get the camera fixed on his face, zoomed in to the right position — the buttons make his fingers feel huge and clumsy.] ]

[ Eventually he settles for a little more than half of his face on the screen, frowning through to the other end, his eyes blue and pensive and far too old for his boyish face. ]

I need the use of a crossbow or spear. I’d be willing to trade for the rabbit I kill, or whatever other game is around, and water, of which I currently have at least two week’s supply. Or gold, if you want it.

[ He pauses, wondering what else to add. How to convince people he can’t see that he’s the best damn hunter in the city right now, and they should band behind him? Words have always come to Arthur when speaking to a crowd of men, noble and inspiring words, that made men hold up their swords and shout the name of he and his kingdom. But right now it’s just him and the unforgiving screen of the device, and no words come. He swallows, throat clicking. ]

If you want to work together, I’m your best chance at survival. Contact me privately to trade locations and negotiate the terms of our alliance.

[Vivi's standing in the remains of one of the houses. In her arms she's cradling a few dust covered cans that she managed to salvage on the dash over to the Qik-E Mart that she's just returned from, still slightly breathless.]

For those of you I haven't met yet, I'm Vivi.

Is everyone safe? Have you got a place to sleep? There's still some space here - it's not terribly comfortable, but it'll do.

[She gestures towards the cans.] I found some food, I'd love it if you'd all share it with me.

[That may or may not be a very faint bruise across the bridge of his nose. Elena's arm swing is a little stronger than it used to be and apparently he bruises now which is perfect.]

So how's being in the real world working out for everyone? Scale of zero to zero.

Remember, don't hurt yourselves with those brand new toys.

[Especially you, Elena.]

first bullet

[He couldn't stay in the city for long. He knew that. This one seems better than the capitol, but that doesn't mean it's truly safe. For now, he's found himself a place a couple floors up in an old office building. The windows are busted out and the fire escape is a death trap, but it provides a dry and open area to practice shooting his bow (at least is does once he's cleared out a pathway through the remains of cubicles).

There's his gun, but he has no extra ammo aside from what it already had in it when he got there. And aside from that, firing his gun could bring the undead shambling his way from miles around. It's important that he learn how to use this bow and arrow, since they would make for more silent kills and he might even be able to retrieve the arrows again afterward.

He's drawn a target along the far wall, thick lines scratched in from bits of broken pencils. It's not perfect, but it has a center point to aim for, and that's all that matters.

During a break in his practicing, he pulls out his phone. If he can really contact some of the others here, then he should give it a go.]

Um... hey.

If you can hear this, my name is Carl Grimes.

It's hard to believe for me, but... apparently some of you don't know anything about these zombies. I know about them, so I thought I'd give everyone some pointers. You don't have to listen if you know this stuff already.

First of all, don't let them bite you. Their bites will kill you. If someone dies, and I don't mean just from a bite, make sure you do something to destroy their brains, or they'll come back like a zombie too...

Um... Don't make any real loud noises. They're attracted to those. So be careful when you shoot guns and stuff.

...I'm not really sure what else I should say.

(NPC POST) WELCOME.

[ Late in the evening, the long dead speakers around the city crackle to life. The rather chipper voice of a man ahems politely. ]

It seems our humble little city is livening up once more. Ha! Livening. It's certainly an improvement! Maybe you can find some paints, some pets, oh, and a lawnmower. Those weeds could eat a man!

Or hide a man-eater. Goodness me. You never know what could be hiding in that grass! Truly, I would not advise lingering in the long grass.

My name is Gospel. Some of you may remember me as the author of that handy-dandy pamphlet! The four of us will be your supervisors. Ah, you've already seen Ruth's work. I'm afraid the other two aren't nearly verbose enough to even fill a greeting card. Whatever they have to say, whenever they come out and say it, it will be too terribly dry and boring to be of any real use to anyone.

As the oldest among us, and the most social, I've taken it upon myself to introduce you to your new reality and purpose.

The truth of the matter is, we need your help. The world needs your help - your world needs your help. All you have to do is live in it. That's easy. We don't require anything as grandoise as upheaving the status quo and creating a new social order, or fancy battles for the end of the world, of which I'm sure some of you are familiar, no. It's far too late for that.

It's your decision what sort of society you'll have. It's also most likely going to need to be very mobile. You'll be pleased to hear that there is no activity outside the walls at this time. That will probably change, those dastardly little dickens do have a way of sneaking up on you... We'll do what we can to keep you nice and cozy here until you're prepared to face what comes.

And that includes questions! I'm sure you've seen your phones now. Hopefully you have some idea how to use those. We can converse through those - don't bother shouting, I can't hear you.

[If characters check their phone, they will notice a new icon has been added to the first screen, labeled Forum, as well as a new name at the top of their contact list, labeled Caretakers. This name is now a permanent staple of the list, though Caretakers are not always guaranteed to respond to questions asked. Furthermore, all questions and responses will be posted on an open message board of sorts, accessible by the new button on the screen, and can be responded to by anyone.]
